TRACKING THE ZAGS
By Sabrina Jones
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — It’s going to be an inside game, according to the experts. The experts being, of coure, the Lady Zags themselves. Look for a battle in the paint as they defend Atlantic-10 Conference Player of the Year 6-foot-5-inch Amber Harris, who averages nearly 16 points and 9 rebounds per game, and Atlantic-10 Defensive Player of the Year 6-foot-6 Ta’Shia Phillips, who brings in 14 points and 11 rebounds each game.
While this marks only the second appearance for the Lady Zags in the NCAA Tournament, their record now stands at 3-1 overall. For the Musketeers, it’s their ninth appearance with a 58 post-season record. The Musketeers’ last NCAA Tournament win prior to last weekend’s victory over Vanderbilt was in 2001. Xavier comes in as the No. 3 seed, its best seed in school history, while Gonzaga comes into the Sacramento Regionals with the lowest seeding of the four teams battling for a spot in the Final Four. None of this matters to the Lady Zags, though. They look forward to the challenge.
