For the first time, Gonzaga University will proudly host the signature event of the burgeoning University District Month: The Fourth Annual Catalyst Awards for technology. The program, which will include the kickoff for University District Month, begins at 4 p.m., Oct. 6 in the East Lobby of the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The awards recognize innovation and technological accomplishments by individuals, organizations and businesses, fostering economic growth and prosperity in the Inland Northwest. This year’s theme is “Educate – Innovate – Celebrate.” To attend, register online.

Gonzaga strongly supports development of the U-District, which will add to the housing, entertainment, and cultural opportunities for the thousands of its students who call the area home. Gonzaga’s PACCAR Center for Applied Science is a finalist for a Catalyst Award this year. The Center earned the prestigious “Gold” certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.

A designated Washington State Innovation Partnership Zone, the U-District is known for its contributions to health sciences and is the confluence of learning and sharing that fosters regional economic growth. The event is part of the monthlong University District Month celebration in October, said Brandon Betty, U-District project coordinator.

“The University District Development Association (UDDA) is excited for this year’s Catalyst Awards to recognize and commemorate our region’s most successful and inspiring innovators,” Betty said. “The University District is an ideal place for this event. It’s an epicenter for education, research, and economic revitalization in the region.”

Other sponsors include Technet, Greater Spokane Inc., McKinstry, the Journal of Business, and Dean Davis Photography.
