SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University’s Center for Engineering Design will host Design Exposition Days April 28-29 in the Atrium of the Herak Center for Engineering and Applied Science. The event is free and open to the public; all are welcome to view the projects and interact with the teams.

At the 19th annual Senior Design Exposition Day on April 29 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Gonzaga senior engineering students’ design teams will present their projects and reports, and demonstrate models and prototypes. The day before, on April 28, Gonzaga will present its first KEEN Design Competition from 1-5 p.m. for teams of juniors. The goal for junior engineering teams is to create a machine that automatically packages marbles.

The Senior Design Exposition Day will feature 29 projects, ranging from the design of a classroom building at Spokane’s Ferris High School to a project that simulates vortex flow used by fish in breeding. Other senior design efforts include a project to improve water quality at two African villages and a project to create a solar-powered refrigerator that works without electricity.

The Center for Engineering Design is located within the Gonzaga School of Engineering and Applied Science and provides senior students with real-world engineering projects that are sponsored by private and public companies, giving students opportunities to utilize engineering skills and interact with professional engineers.

Gonzaga’s School of Engineering and Applied Science celebrated its 75th anniversary last year and continues to excel. According to U.S. News and World Report, the School ranks No. 17 (tie) for best undergraduate engineering program in the nation at colleges without doctoral programs. For the first time, Gonzaga’s civil engineering program is ranked in the top 10 nationwide (tied for No. 7) among schools in its category.

Last year’s Exposition Day included 26 projects ranging from a prototype to eliminate hazardous airborne particles in industrial settings to construction and civil site documents for a Catholic University of Sudan in Sudan, Africa.
