Three Gonzaga U. Faculty Advance as Finalists for Catalyst Awards for Technology

The Catalyst Awards ceremony is Oct. 5.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University faculty Sen. Lisa Brown, D-Spokane, Paul Buller and Steve Schennum are finalists for the prestigious Fifth Annual Catalyst Awards for Technology, a signature event Oct. 5 that kicks off University District Month in Spokane.

Brown and Buller are finalists for the Ken Grunzweig Innovator of the Year Award. Schennum’s brainchild, the Gonzaga University Smart Antenna and Radio Laboratory, is a finalist for Organization of the Year. Brown is an associate professor of organizational leadership in the School of Professional Studies and majority leader of the state Senate. Buller, founding director of the Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program, is the School of Business Administration’s Kinsey M. Robinson Professor of Business Management. Schennum, associate professor of electrical engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, earned a $1.1 million award from the National Science Foundation – the University’s largest federal research grant ever – to support his research.

The awards recognize innovation and technological accomplishments by individuals, organizations and businesses that foster economic growth in the Inland Northwest. The awards ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at Riverpoint Campus on South Campus Facility at 212 E. Spokane Falls Blvd. A reception including appetizers and refreshments begins at 4 p.m., and continues after the program. Admission is $26 before Oct. 1 or $31 afterward; admission for students is $10 before Oct. 1, $15 afterward. Visit the following website to RSVP and register online.

A designated Washington State Innovation Partnership Zone, the U-District contributes to health sciences and is the confluence of learning and sharing that fosters regional economic growth. The theme for the Catalyst Awards is Educate – Innovate – Celebrate.
