SPOKANE, Wash – Gonzaga University’s Magnuson Theatre will continue its 2010-11 season with Bob Fosse’s vaudeville classic musical “Chicago” opening Jan. 28. Show dates are 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28-29 and Feb. 4-5; three 2 p.m. matinees will be performed Jan. 30 and Feb. 4-5. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and are available now.
Suzanne Ostersmith, who leads Gonzaga’s dance program, will direct “Chicago.” Ostersmith is enthusiastic about working on the show, and hopes to instill some of Fosse’s choreographic magic and style from the original stage production.
“It is exciting to be producing this musical more in keeping with the original Bob Fosse script rather than trying to emulate the movie that came out a few years ago,” Ostersmith said.
The cast represents a diverse mix of students, which Ostersmith believes represents Gonzaga’s emphasis on involvement in all aspects of the University. “I have a terrific cast that includes almost every major of the University,” she said.
Audience members can expect a lively show full of familiar songs and intricate dance numbers that will transport them to the 1920s.
