SPOKANE, Wash. – The 54-member Gonzaga University Choir, led by conductor Timothy Westerhaus, returned recently from a regional recruitment tour in Seattle where they performed at six different high schools to more than 600 students, serving as Gonzaga’s artistic ambassadors. (Click the video above to view a slideshow of the Choir in Seattle and listen to its performance of “The Water is Wide.”)
The Choir provided a stunning concert at the Daniels Recital for more than 75 Gonzaga alumni, family, and friends. In addition to this free concert, the singers performed for a liturgy at Our Lady of Fatima Parish and followed with a brief concert for 100 parishioners.
The Choral program aims to promote choral music among high school students. Soonja Doyle, director of choirs and liturgical music for Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Wash., expressed gratitude to Westerhaus and the entire Choir after a performance there.
“After you left, I went back inside and was instantly crowded by eager students. They were so excited and inspired – asking if we could do similar music, talking about college choir,” Doyle said. “It was amazing.”
The Gonzaga University Choir strives to establish similarly positive collaborations across the nation.
