SPOKANE, Wash. – McDonald’s of Spokane has generously agreed to be the presenting sponsor for Gonzaga University’s upcoming Zagapalooza celebration – an all-out, all-class-years alumni reunion Oct. 19-21 – a cornerstone of Gonzaga’s yearlong 125th Anniversary Celebration.

Mark J. Ray, 1967 Gonzaga alumnus and owner of the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) area McDonald’s restaurants, was instrumental in the 1987 launch of the Spokane Ronald McDonald House. He became aware of the opportunity to sponsor Zagapalooza while promoting the mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Spokane, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The organization provides temporary lodging, comfort and support for families of children accessing medical services, and supports related efforts to improve children’s health. It is through Ray’s support that Ronald McDonald House Charities has joined McDonald’s in presenting sponsor support of Zagapalooza.

The Ronald McDonald House of Spokane, located at 1015 W. 5th Ave., just south of Interstate 90 near major medical centers, offers a central family kitchen, private family bedrooms, comfortable living areas and plenty of room for children to play. At the House, families find strength from each other as well as from RMHC staff and volunteers. Since opening its doors in 1987, Ronald McDonald House of Spokane has served more than 11,000 families in the Inland Northwest region. One-hundred percent of donations from the Inland Northwest allow families to stay in the house.

Since the first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974, Ronald McDonald Houses have been established in 300 communities worldwide. Visit the following link to learn more about the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Spokane.

Zagapalooza, which coincides with the University’s annual Fall Family Weekend also being held on campus, will include many activities for alumni, students and their families. The weekend starts with a Kickoff Event from 5:30-9 p.m. Friday (Oct. 19) – a party so big it’s being held in the Spokane Convention Center. Many special guests will be on hand for the entertainment-packed festivities, including alumni from across the country, and beloved faculty. Visit Zagapalooza Central for complete details and registration, and www.gonzaga.edu/125 to browse historic photos, order your Anniversary Books, and view all highlights of the anniversary celebration.
