LAS VEGAS — The top-seeded Gonzaga University women’s basketball team arrived this morning for the West Coast Conference basketball championship. The Bulldogs will take on No. 4 Brigham Young University in the noon semifinal at the Orleans Arena on Saturday.
The Cougars (21-9), who had a bye into the quarterfinals, defeated No. 5 seed Loyola Marymount University 69-57 Friday. Three of the five Cougar starters scored in double-figures to lead them to victory while Stephanie Seaborn had a game-high 21 points.
The Bulldogs earned wins against BYU in both regular-season contests this season; a 74-59 victory in the McCarthey Athletic Center, Jan. 17 and a 66-55 win in Provo, Utah, Feb. 23. Gonzaga was led in those two wins by Sunny Greinacher and Taelor Karr; Greinacher averaged 13.5 points and 4.0 rebounds, while Karr averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds. Gonzaga leads the all-time series 6-5 and has won 2-straight.
