SPOKANE, Wash. – Fifteen Gonzaga University students were among 1,600 college students from across the nation and abroad who took part in the Collegiate DECA 53rd International Career Development Conference. Eight Gonzaga students earned awards at the conference April 23-27 in Washington, D.C.

The team of Gena Hoxha from Shkoder, Albania and junior Sasha Olson, Oak Harbor, Wash., earned third place in the international marketing event. Hoxha, a Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program student who graduated May 10, studied multiple business and language areas. Olson studies marketing, international business and human resource management.

Five additional Gonzaga students were awarded Top 10 Awards in each of their respective competitions: Freshmen Amanda Johnson, Cade Miller, and Mary Claire Squires were recognized for the advertising campaign event; Tabish Mohammad, an MBA student, was recognized for retail management; and freshman Colin Phelps was recognized in the hospitality and tourism competition.

All 15 of the Gonzaga students were award winners at the Washington State DECA Competition in February, which qualified them to advance to the international conference.
