World-renowned primatologist and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall wowed a near-capacity crowd April 9 at Gonzaga University’s McCarthey Athletic Center with tales of her life’s work doing groundbreaking chimpanzee behavioral research in Africa, and her reasons for hope in the future.

Harvard Law School Professor Kathleen Sullivan, the former dean of Stanford Law School, will present the Gonzaga University School of Law Quackenbush Lecture at noon Wednesday, March 27 in the Gonzaga University School of Law Barbieri Courtroom (721 N. Cincinnati St.). The free lecture, titled “Free Speech in the Roberts Court,” is open to the public with limited seating.

President McCulloh Affirms Gonzaga Climate Action Plan
Gonzaga University President Thayne McCulloh has approved Gonzaga’s first comprehensive Climate Action Plan, which aims for Gonzaga to achieve climate neutrality – zero emissions – by 2050, said Brian G. Henning, associate professor of philosophy and co-chair of Gonzaga’s Advisory Council on Stewardship and Sustainability.

Natural Resource Law Expert Keiter to Speak at Gonzaga Law School Feb. 22
Robert Keiter, a professor of natural resources law at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinley College of Law, will discuss “The Effects of Climate Change Law and Policy on Wildlife” at noon, Friday, Feb. 22, in Room 143 of the Gonzaga University School of Law (721 N. Cincinnati St.). The free lecture is open to the public with refreshments provided by the GU Environmental Law Caucus.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Tickets are now available for “Making a Difference: An Evening with Dr. Jane Goodall” at 7 p.m. April 9 at Gonzaga University’s McCarthey Athletic Center. A world-renowned primatologist and conservationist, Dr. Goodall, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and United Nations Messenger of Peace, will headline the spring 2013 Gonzaga Presidential Speaker Series, part of the University’s 125th Anniversary celebration.
President Obama Appoints Alumnus James J. McCarthy to Arctic Research Commission
President Barack Obama has announced the appointment of Gonzaga University alumnus James J. McCarthy to the Arctic Research Commission. McCarthy was among two appointments to the Artic Research Commission and fills one of four positions on the committee for members of academic or research institutions.
Gonzaga Ranks among Nation’s Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students
The Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program, recently announced the complete list of colleges and universities that produced the most 2012-2013 U.S. Fulbright Students. The success of Gonzaga University and all top-producing institutions is highlighted in the Oct. 24 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. Three Gonzaga students won Fulbright awards for 2012-2013.
Kern Family Foundation Grant Advances Entrepreneurial Engineering at Gonzaga University
The Kern Family Foundation of Waukesha, Wisc., has awarded the Gonzaga University School of Engineering and Applied Science a $651,002 grant to further the school’s effort in instilling the entrepreneurial mindset into every engineering and computer science student, faculty and staff member. This continuation grant adds to the $355,475 already received from the Foundation, bringing the total for the initiative to more than $1 million.
