Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Recognizes Díaz for Play ‘A La Roro’

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival has awarded Gonzaga University senior Art Por Díaz the Artists Striving to End Poverty scholarship in recognition of the play he wrote titled, “A La Roro.” The scholarship allows Díaz to attend the Artist as Citizen Conference in June at the Juilliard School in New York City.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University theatre’s production of “Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play” has been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Denver, for the 2017 Region VII event next month. This marks the first time a Gonzaga production has been invited to perform at the festival.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University’s Magnuson Theatre launches off its 2016 season with “Freud’s Last Session” as part of a touring production from Wayland Baptist University. The play by award-winning contemporary American playwright Mark St. Germain will run at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9-10. The Magnuson Theatre is located at the east end of College Hall.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University senior Miranda Heckman has found a way to blend her three academic loves: biology, dance and education. Spokane elementary schoolchildren are now learning about the Spokane River through her creativity and inspiring vision in a choreographed dance presentation titled, “The Dancing River.”

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga and Whitworth universities will host a preview of Square Top Theatre’s latest original performance, “Laura, or Scenes from a Common World.” The one-night-only, work-in-progress film screening and live stage performance begins at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12 at Gonzaga’s Magnuson Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Three Gonzaga professors are collaborating to bring the ancient stories of women from Scripture to the stage in a new, modern perspective. “Weaving Our Sisters’ Voices,” an original Gonzaga production, will show in the Magnuson Theatre Oct. 9-11 and Oct. 16-18.
